This committee advocates on behalf of the NMHBA in our community, including through judicial endorsements, resolutions, and other involvement in community initiatives.
Advocacy: As the voice of the Hispanic legal community in New Mexico, the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association (NMHBA) is the state’s leading advocate for Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, legal assistants, law students and other legal professionals. The NMHBA also advocates on issues of importance to the broader Hispanic community. The NMHBA advocacy efforts are selected by the organization to reflect current issues affecting the Hispanic legal and broader community. Please click here to view the NMHBA’s policy and procedures for determining its involvement in a particular issue. If you are interested in asking for the NMHBA's support or advocacy on a particular issue, please review the policy here.
Judicial Endorsement: As part of its advocacy efforts, the NMHBA endorses qualified judicial candidates in their elections. One of the main goals of the NMHBA is to increase the representation of Hispanics in judicial office, thus increasing the diversity of leadership in the legal community. While the NMHBA's principal goal in endorsing judicial candidates is to promote the selection of qualified Hispanic candidates from across New Mexico, it will also consider endorsement requests from qualified non-Hispanic candidates.
A written request for an endorsement must be received no later than sixty (60) calendar days before the election for which the endorsement is sought. The NMHBA's Judicial Endorsement Procedures and Guidelines, along with the Judicial Endorsement Election Questionnaire are available here.
