Since its founding in 1978, the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association has flourished into the leading voluntary bar association in New Mexico. The NMHBA Board of Directors is comprised of twenty-four voting members and a student member from the Mexican American Law Student Association at the University of New Mexico School of Law. Approximately three hundred attorneys and students are members of the NMHBA, coming from diverse backgrounds and areas of practice.
Our mission is to promote the education and development of Hispanic legal professionals. We do this by providing our members with networking opportunities and continuing legal education seminars. Our networking opportunities include “meet and greets” in northern, central and southern New Mexico and bi-monthly luncheons in Albuquerque. The NMHBA advocates on behalf of issues affecting its members and Hispanics and is involved in community initiatives. We also have an active endorsement process for judicial candidates. Because diversity in the legal profession is critically important, the NMHBA has a variety of initiatives aimed at supporting diverse students at all levels of the educational pipeline. Those programs include the NMHBA’s annual Law Camp for middle school students from across New Mexico, statewide high school outreach, as well as scholarships and mentorship for University of New Mexico law students.
